The ACCC’s weekly fuel update published on 16 October 2026 reported a small rise in average retail petrol prices and a small fall in retail diesel prices over the preceding week. Its monitoring covers capital cities and more than 190 regional locations.
The report tracks several stages of the fuel market, including international benchmarks, domestic wholesale prices and retail prices. Those figures describe different parts of the supply chain; a wholesale movement is not a promise that every service station will change its sign immediately.
For a South West Sydney household, a useful comparison is the same fuel grade at accessible local stations on the same day. Check the vehicle’s required fuel specification before comparing products. A cheaper advertised grade is not automatically suitable for your engine.
Keep a simple record of litres purchased, distance travelled and the amount paid. That separates changes in price from changes in consumption. If your car suddenly uses more fuel on a similar driving pattern, describe that change when arranging an inspection rather than assuming the pump price explains the entire increase.
