CAR REPAIR & SERVICING · INGLEBURN
22 October 2026
On 16 October 2026, the NSW Government announced that another strata reform bill had passed Parliament. Among the measures described is a right for owners to install electric vehicle charging on their own lot without unreasonable objection from their strata committee.
That is a useful development for apartment owners considering an EV, but a bill passing Parliament and every provision becoming operational are different steps. The announcement alone should not be treated as permission to start electrical work or bypass a building’s approval process.
Before commissioning an installation, ask NSW Fair Trading or your strata manager which rules have commenced and how they apply to your proposed parking space. Confirm whether the work affects common property, how electricity will be metered, and who will pay installation and ongoing costs.
A licensed electrical contractor can assess the proposed equipment and the building’s electrical capacity. Keep that assessment separate from the car’s servicing requirements. Charging access is part of deciding whether an EV suits your household, and the answer may depend on your building as much as the vehicle.
